Experience the power of rhythm, community and music at our African Drumming Night, a lively and immersive 90-minute workshop in the outdoor surroundings of the newly refurbished Rising Sun.
Led by Chris Morgan Drums, a local music teacher, this hands-on session is a chance to learn traditional rhythms, explore the art of group drumming and discover just how uplifting and energising making music together can be.
Whether you’ve never touched a drum before or joined us for our previous African drumming session, you’re very welcome. We’ll be exploring new songs, rhythms and patterns, making this a great opportunity for returning participants to learn something different while keeping the session accessible and enjoyable for complete beginners.
What to expect
Throughout the session, Chris will guide you through a selection of rhythms, techniques and songs, showing you how individual drum patterns work together to create vibrant, energetic music.
One of the wonderful things about African drumming is the way everyone contributes to the overall rhythm. You don’t need to be musical or have any previous experience — you simply learn your part, listen to the group and gradually discover how all the rhythms come together.
Expect to:
- Learn and play a variety of African-inspired rhythms and songs
- Try different drumming techniques
- Experience the energy of making music as a group
- Learn something new, whether you’re a beginner or returning participant
- Meet others and enjoy a fun, relaxed evening
- Have plenty of opportunities to get involved and play
All drums and percussion instruments are provided, so you don’t need to bring any equipment.
Outdoor setting
The workshop will take place on the grass area at the Rising Sun, making the most of the outdoor surroundings and creating a relaxed summer atmosphere.
Who is it for?
Absolutely everyone over the age of 7! Whether you’re completely new to drumming, have some musical experience or came along to our previous session, this workshop is designed to be welcoming, inclusive and fun.
The songs and rhythms will be different from our previous session, so returning participants can come back and learn something new.
This is more than just a music workshop - it’s a chance to switch off, connect with others, try something different and experience the joy of creating music together.
Spaces are limited to ensure everyone has an instrument and plenty of opportunity to participate, so advance booking is recommended.
Come along, find your rhythm and discover what happens when a group of people come together to make music.
